Podcasting What Geeks Really Want To Hear

  1. kroh.net seems to be down so I can’t listen to the podcast – any news on what’s going on?

  2. Hmmm… it appears to be working right now (and was working last night). Try it again and see if all goes well. If it doesn’t – e-mail me (geekmuse gmail.com) and get you another URL that’ll get the episode.

FYI (not that it necessarily applies here):

If you’re using iTunes and it did a partial download, delete the entry from iTunes, then collapse the episode list (click on the little black triangle) and then hold down the Shift Key (on Windows – on Mac systems, hold down the Option key) and click on the triangle again. When it expands, it’ll redownload the RSS feed and you can download any missing episode again.

  3. Ahhh it’s working again now. I guess I jumped on here too soon! Thanks anyway. FYI I’m just downloading the regular MP3.

  4. You’re missing out. ;-)

Our first 2-3 episodes had a very minimal ‘enhanced podcast’ but since then, I’ve tried to improve upon it. It actually does take me around 2 hours each episode to create the enhanced version (getting all the links and images together and then trying to put them into a coherent spot). I’m sure a lot of people don’t really care about it, but when I listen to the episodes I like it. Almost every time we mention a web site or a URL, the enhanced podcast immediately has a link to the URL. No need to type anything or visit the blog – just click and you’re there.

Actually, I really wish more podcasts would create an enhanced version. Its not that much extra work and for those who make use of the links, it sure is nice.

  5. I don’t have an iPod or listen to podcasts at my computer with iTunes so I just get the regular mp3.

  6. Yeah, I agree: use iTunes. It’s great to be able to follow stories while listening. Thanks for making the effort, Nem. (btw I don’t have an iPod and will not be getting one until they make one with replaceable batteries, like my camera).

  7. Either way, another great podcast guys!

I was rather unimpressed with Leopard at WWDC – most of the features presented can hardly be described as a new version of the operating system – they’re the sort of thing that Microsoft would release on an ad-hoc basis. Paul Thurrott has written a good article on it all.

Awesome video on the tactile display but I guess it’ll be a few years before it makes it to market.

    Thanks again!

  8. Just listening to the cast about Time Machine. I want to clarify something that I believe is true. Time Machine will back up as you save, and then at a time of your choosing, will collapse all of the changes made in a day into a daily snapshot.

Thus, you can go back save by save until you reach the snapshot boundary at which point you can only go back checkpoint by checkpoint.
