Podcasting What Geeks Really Want To Hear

Welcome to the new Geek Muse blog!

We’re done with Simple PHP Blog, although it has served us well over the last year and half. We’re now using WordPress via DreamHost. Things should be much faster and there will hopefully be less blog spam. I’ve moved over a bunch of the old entries; however, comments did not transfer. Speaking of comments, you must now get an account with the Geek Muse blog before you can post comments. It’s fairly painless and will help us keep down on spam.

I’m looking forward to working with the new blog (as I can now use Ecto and other blogging tools) and I hope that our little blog will get a little more use out of us, as well as all of our listeners.

At first, though this struck me as a bad idea, I couldn’t exactly point out what it was. Then it hit me: You forgot about how often one has to pick up a mouse. (Maybe they could put a deactivating button on the side, so you don’t pick it up and move it, you just hold a button and move it.)

mt-daapd – iTunes server for *nix

The server config file is well documented and you can even set up another config file for playlists, using a smart playlist-like syntax.

The only other problem that I see right now, is that I can’t change the password used for access. If I do, iTunes just freaks out – it doesn’t ask me for a new password. This is likely a problem with the code being written for iTunes 6 and using it with iTunes 7.

Anyways, here’s a little screenshot from my Mac Mini, showing my windows box (first entry) and my Solaris box (second entry) with some of my defined playlists.

I’m sorry, I can’t hear you over the sound of how awesome I am.

I’ve created a ZIP archive (11 Mb) of all of the high(er) res PNGs from this site. You can grab it here – Nem

For anybody that’s tried to explain to a layman how BitTorrent or almost any other P2P protocol works, here’s a nice little Java app that can show them visually. I suggest a single seed a two clients (hit ‘s’ once and ‘+’ twice) for simplicity sake.
